Depressed people tend to worry unnecessarily about things and consider all the negative possibilities for future. This makes them even more depressed. This cycle of misery is hard to break, but mindfulness can help you do it. You have to focus on the present and nothing else. This can be a little difficult to do and needs some practice, but you’ll see definite results with it. Replace all the jumble of countless thoughts in your mind with the sensations of the present moment, the smell, the touch, the sound, everything. Keep all your senses engaged. It’s your way of saying goodbye to worries of yesterday and the doom and gloom of the potential tomorrow you dreaded. It’s time to get up close and personal with now.


Being Less Than Perfect:

If you’re a perfectionist who sets impossible standards for himself, you’ll end up feeling sour and depressed when you don't achieve those standards, and you’ll probably beat yourself up about it. Don’t impose stress on yourself like that. Constantly remind yourself that it is okay to not be perfect all the time. In fact, you may even get to enjoy the things that other people find amusing. Life isn’t about perfectionism. It’s about all the lessons you learn along the way, so if you mess up occasionally, it’s something to look back on and laugh. Loosen up and stop expecting yourself to be something you are not.


Interacting With Positive People:

Try and socialize with positive and optimistic people. Observe their ways and thinking, and ask yourself how they would deal with a certain situation that you might be facing. It’s probably different and much better than what you would’ve done. So just for a while, try to pretend and put on a strong face. Do things the way they would do them and you’ll notice great changes soon. Positive people tend to have a very positive impact on you and they are the best types of friends to have. Get rid of toxic friendships. Life is too short. Positive people help you to see things in perspective.


Healthy Habits

Having a healthy lifestyle can really help you counter stress and sadness. This will help you recover from depression. It’s not easy to think of self when you are depressed and if you are in the pit of depression, then it's unlikely that you look after yourself properly. You may even avoid washing or brushing your hair. You may not clean your teeth or even get dressed. The more you stick to that routine, the lower you will drop, so you do need to step out of it and force yourself to get up, to wash, to brush your hair and to dress. The rest is all common sense but you may need a little bit of help along the way. We are here to help you and in future chapters, you will see that it isn’t as hard as you think it is. You need routine. Routine is what makes the world go around and if you deprive yourself of purpose to get up and make the most of yourself, you also bask in your misery and that's not where you want to be right now.
